OneNote for Personalized Instruction with Support for Struggling Readers
Jill Sitnick During the session participants will be introduced to Microsoft’s OneNote Classroom Notebook.  This O365 tool allows educators to organize instructional resources in order to deliver powerful lessons and create personalized, secure learning environments for students.   In addition to reviewing the steps to create OneNote Classroom Notebooks in O365, OneNote’s newest features will be reviewed and participants are encouraged to bring their devices and play with the program.

Integrating Google Classroom at the Middle School

Teachers will set up classes, add announcements, assignments, discussion questions, and interact with students using posts. They can grade and provide feedback for student assignments. This will mainly be a "How To" on Google Classroom.

Are You Flipping of Flopping?

As the flipped classroom has taken off in recent years, many teachers are taking it too literally: watch a video lecture at home and do practice problems in class. The flipped model needs to be used to change how we teach, not just the order of the things we do. This session will open with a discussion about how we can teach kids to learn from videos, not just watch them. From there, we will do and discuss at 3-5 activities that get the students moving and can be adapted to any class.

Incorporating Student Choice & Communication Tools to Increase Engagement

In this workshop, we will explore numerous ways to increase student, parents and community engagement in the classroom. Developing lessons where student choice is at the foundation can be crucial for the transfer of knowledge. Working backward, infusing leveled questioning and collaboration are other key components of a successful student exploration. Communication tools should be utilized daily to help keep all parents/guardians involved in student learning. Although the content used in this workshop will be taken from a middle school math (CCSS) classroom, the pedagogical strategies can be infused in various K-8 settings. Specific tools we will explore are Haiku Deck, Smores, Edmodo, and Google Forms.

Using Classcraft.com attendees will learn how to create an exciting classroom experience through the use of Classcraft - a behavior-based online game system driven by the behaviors and actions of your students. Students can create their own characters and join teams to work individually and together to make it through the journey of your classroom. Leading Through Change: How to Implement an Effective Digital Conversion

In year three of a five-year digital conversion, MERS has set the bar for how to successfully implement a one to one digital conversion. Starting with a small pilot in 2013 of just 100 Chromebooks, to now deploying over 2400 Chromebooks to students in grades 5-8 using both a “day user” and take home model. Find out what strategies MERS leaders utilize day to day to be effective agents of change. Through continuous training and modeling, staff has learned to engage, educate, and empower their students.
